Hawks 4, Tigers 5

Orange, CA- Santiago College was defeated in the final seconds of play by Riverside Community College on Friday afternoon.  It was a thrilling game with goals occurring frequently in the first half.  After going down a goal early the Hawks were rewarded a penalty kick after a hand ball in the box that was finished by Kody Farrel.   Minutes later Raul Ayala finished a header from close range off a flick by Jake Spieckerman.  Kody Farrel scored his second of the game with a power finish off of a precision through ball from Raul Ayala.  The Hawks struck again through Jose Pomolaza placing a finesse shot in the top corner from a lay off by Raul Ayala.  The Tigers were able to pull two goals back late in the half resulting in the score-line being 4-3 at the break.

The second half saw a tougher defensive battle as both teams were able to stop the other from advancing the score.  However, with just six minutes left to play the Tigers were able to strike from a long range shot.  The match looked destined for overtime until a Tiger forward was tripped in the penalty area with only seconds left to play.  A penalty kick was awarded and the resulting goal proved to be the decisive factor.  The despite a tough season with numerous setback the Hawks always remained optimistic and persistent with a never-say-die attitude.

Hawks 0, Hornets 4

Fullerton, CA-  Santiago Canyon College suffered a heartbreaking 4-0 defeat on Friday afternoon at Fullerton College.  The Hornets jumped ahead early in the game scoring three goals in the first eight minutes of play.  After being shocked by the Fullerton offense early Santiago settled into their style of play and spent the remainder of the half attacking although being ultimately unsuccessful in their efforts.

The play in the second half became very open with both teams continually alternating attacking opportunities throughout.  Although both teams created great scoring options it was Fullerton that was able to find the back of the net once again with only ten minutes left to play.  The Hawks will look to end their season on a positive note as they head into their last game of conference play.

The Hawks play next on Friday, November 11 at home against Riverside College .  Kick off is at 3 pm.

Hawks 0, Dons 5

Orange, CA-  Santiago Canyon College fell to the Santa Ana College Dons 5-0 on Friday afternoon.  The Hawks put up an outstanding effort throughout the match but the offensive capabilities of the Dons were just too strong to be stopped.  Santa Ana was able to get in behind the Santiago defense twice resulting in the Hawks being down by two goals at half time.

During the the half time break the Hawks made a decision to change their attacking formation and game strategy.  This alteration produced a few goal scoring opportunities for Hawk attackers Giovani Sosa and Raul Ayala but those chances could not be converted.  With numbers being pushed forward the Hawk defense was then left vulnerable in the back ultimately allowing another three goals before the final whistle.  Santiago is now entering their final week of conference play looking to end the season with a couple of positive results.

The Hawks play next on Tuesday, November 8 away at Fullerton College .  Kick off is at 3 pm.

Hawks 1, Lasers 6

Orange, CA-  Santiago Canyon College suffered a devastating 6-1 loss on Tuesday afternoon against Irvine Valley College.  The Lasers opened the scoring just five minutes into the first half putting the Hawks on their heals.  However, the Hawks were then able to equalize only five minutes later through Raul Ayala off of a great through ball from Kevin Feazel.  The Lasers offense then took over the game finishing three more goals before half time.
The Hawks played a better second half creating several good goal scoring opportunities.  Unfortunately, they were unsuccesful in converting their chances.  Irvine Valley was not settling for the halftime score line and continued to press throughout the second half resulting in two more goals before the end of the game.  Despite the setback Santiago is looking forward to their upcoming games and looking to finish their remaining conference schedule on a positive note.

The Hawks play next on Friday, November 4 away at Santa Ana College .  Kick off is at 3 pm.

Hawks 0, Chargers 1

Orange, CA-  Santiago Canyon College suffered a heartbreaking loss on Friday afternoon at Cypress College with the final result being 1-0.  The first half was very open with both teams having approximately the same possession and number of attacks.  The action was very fast paced with a lot of physical play although neither team was able to settle into their desired style.

The break through came about 10 minutes into the second half when the Charger forward had a nice turn and fired a shot into the top corner of the goal.  The Hawks refused to give up and in fact played with even greater intensity going into all out attack.  Santiago put forth an outstanding bit of play for the remainder of the half and had Cypress up against the ropes up to the last play of the game but were ultimately unsuccesful in finishing any of their opportunities.  Despite the result the Hawks remain optimistic as they look ahead to their remaining conference games.

Hawks Defeat Rustlers

Orange, CA-  Santiago Canyon College defeated conference leading Golden West College 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon.  Despite allowing an early goal the Hawks were able to equalize just minutes later through an outstanding shot from Kody Ferrell.  The ball was cleared out of the box by the Rustlers after a long throw in but Ferrell was there to blast the ball into the lower right corner of the goal from just outside the penalty area.  The score remained tied 1-1 at halftime.

Just five minutes into the second half the Hawks took the lead from the penalty spot.  Midfielder Raul Ayala was fouled in the penalty area allowing Kody Ferrell to step up and clinically finish the opportunity.  Both teams continued to battle throughout the second half but the Hawk defense of Jose Pomolaza, Nate Espinoza, Jeremy Norwood and Kevin Feazel held firm.  Goalkeeper Daniel Dorantes had an outstanding game saving several Ruslter attempts that looked to be certain goals.  This was a big team win for Santiago with all players contributing to the success.
